Food Sources Of Calcium - Information About Plant And Animal Food Sources Of Calcium

Calcium is the most abundant nutrient found in animals and plants. It is present in the soil and is important for proper growth of plants. When we eat green leafy vegetables, the calcium found in them is transferred to our body where it is absorbed by the bloodstream. Non-dairy food sources of calcium are many and are recommended by doctors. Let's find out more about calcium, its benefits and its plant and animal food sources.

Some of the rich plant food sources of calcium include spinach, soybean, turnip greens, white beans, collards, broccoli, cowpeas, sweet potato and many others. In addition to these, fortified cereals and oatmeal also contain high amounts of calcium and are truly beneficial for health. People who want to gain weight should include whole grains in their everyday diet to fulfill their needs of important nutrients including calcium.

Fresh fruits and vegetables are nutrient-rich and at the same time they are free from any harmful, toxic substances and saturated fat found in animal sources. Half a cup of frozen spinach provides 30 calories and almost 146 mg of calcium. You should introduce more vegetable food sources of calcium to your diet than dairy calcium sources.

Food Sources Of Calcium - Information About Plant And Animal Food Sources Of Calcium

Tuna, sardines, trout and salmon are also rich sources of calcium. Growing children should eat more fish and fresh fruits than other people. Calcium is important for long-term skeletal health and for the prevention of osteoporosis and degenerative disease. Therefore, people who are deficient of calcium should either eat lots of green leafy vegetables and drink milk on a regular basis, or consume calcium-rich nutritional supplements.

Calcium is found in large quantities in molasses and coral reefs. Coral calcium is gaining widespread popularity nowadays because of the many health benefits associated with its consumption. Similarly blackstrap molasses is one of the rich and extremely beneficial food sources of calcium.

Nutritional supplements made with coral calcium obtained from fossilized coral reefs above sea level are the most beneficial for health. They provide health benefits such as strong bones and teeth, beautiful and healthy nails and hair, and prevention from diseases like PMS, depression, bone disease (osteoporosis), cholesterol and heart problems. Coral calcium helps in maintaining the body's pH level and reducing acidity.

It has been found that coral calcium obtained from waters around the Japanese island of Okinawa is the best of all food sources of calcium.

Food Elements - Learn About the Nutritional Elements of Food and Healthy Eating

The purpose of consuming food is to ensure good health and wellness, and therefore, healthy eating is an essential aspect of eating every day. The requirement of food over the years changes over time, with respect to the stage of life that you are in. So while a child requires food to grow and develop, adults need it more for the energy required to function daily. In addition to that, food is also required so as to repair the various parts of the body that are worn away, or those that have had to be discarded due to wear and tear.

We tend to use various parts of our bodies with everything that we do, be it breathing, thinking, moving, playing or working on the computer. This means that we need to be able to continuously replenish our body with a variety of elements that are present in food and drink.

The various elements of food that exist, their characteristics, the manner in which they can be used, and the right way in which specific foods should be combined to obtain maximum benefits are given below:

Food Elements - Learn About the Nutritional Elements of Food and Healthy Eating

The Food Elements

Healthy eating is possible only when you ensure that your body is getting the right food elements in the right quantity that it requires. Therefore, it is essential to know about the food nutrition to be able to make sure that you are consuming everything. Some of the food elements that you should be aware of include starch, sugar, albumen, fats, minerals, and indigestible ingredients.

These are often clubbed together to form the basic classes including carbonaceous, nitrogenous, and inorganic. While all the starches, fats and sugars fall under the carbonaceous category, the albumen is considered to be nitrogenous. All inorganic substances include all the minerals that we need for the body. It should be noted that all healthy recipes or menus should ensure that all the various categories of food are finely balanced in a meal.

Carbonaceous - All starches, sugars and fats are covered under this category. Starch can be found in grains, most vegetables, and also in some fruits. Sugars are available in the form of cane, grape, other fruit sugars, and milk sugar (a constituent of milk). There are also some sugars that are made in the laboratory.

Glucose, for example, is an artificial sugar that is similar to grape juice. It is made from potato or corn starch in a chemical process. However, it is not as sweet as the natural sweeteners that nature provides. Fats can be found in vegetables and animal food too. Butter and suet are examples of animal fat, but you can also find fat in plant sources like nuts, beans and some fruits like olives too.

While fat is commonly used as a free element (as in butter) and we use it in many not-so-healthy recipes in abundance, not only is free fat difficult to consume, but it also interferes with the digestion of other foods.

Nitrogenous - Albumen in its purest form can be found in the white of an egg. The entire white of an egg is nothing but pure albumen. You can also find albumen in other animals and vegetable foods as in the case of oatmeal. Gluten closely resembles albumen and is also a nitrogenous element. It is found in rye, barley and wheat. Casein is also a part of this class of food elements and can be found in peas and beans.

Inorganic - Almost all the foods we consume have a certain proportion of inorganic and mineral matter. Grains and milk have a large proportion of the minerals that we need on a daily basis.

Indigestible substances - These are foods that are not digestible by the body and are therefore only meant to provide bulk to the food that we eat. Bran and fibrous tissues in the body are examples of indigestible foods.

Food Element Uses

Most of the food that we eat is carbonaceous in nature. This is something that has been proven after studying the daily eating habits of various cultures. The carbonaceous food element allows our body to produce heat, and in conjunction with other food elements, allows us to be able to use force and strength. Carbonaceous food elements also help the body replace the fatty tissue that gets used up in the process of fat burning.

While fats produce the highest amount of heat among the carbonaceous food elements, it should be remembered that these are most difficult to digest and can therefore lead to various health issues. Healthy eating deems that only the recommended proportion of fat should be included in meals on a daily basis.

The nitrogenous nutritional elements help in keeping the brain, nerves, and muscles healthy and fit. These are the food elements that ensure that you remain healthy in all respects including mental health. All healthy recipes should include a decent proportion of nitrogenous food elements to ensure that the stimulus to tissue change is provided to the body at all times, thus keeping all tissues fighting fit.

The most commonly required inorganic elements are phosphates. These provide the building blocks for bones and nerves and are therefore critical for good bone health.

Combination of Food Elements

There is a saying that 'too much of everything is bad', and this applies to food as well. While all food elements are required by the body, it is necessary that each of the food elements be consumed in a specific proportion to ensure healthy eating and healthy living. If you want to learn how to cook healthy recipes, you need to know which of the food elements are required by the body and in what quantity.

For one, the daily intake of the body should ensure 6 carbonaceous food elements to 1 nitrogenous food element. It has also been noticed that this one-sixth of nitrogenous food elements can be used up to 3 ounces in a span of 24 hours.

So if you want to ensure that you are making healthy recipes for your family, you need to make use of this scientific knowledge about nutritional element to ensure that your family stays healthy and fit.

1200 Calorie Diabetic Exchange Diet Allows Variations of Food

A 1200 calorie diabetic diet limits intake of carbohydrates, fats and proteins so that you get only 1200 calories per day and nothing more than that. You can use this diet to control blood sugar or to lose weight. You can take the help of a registered dietitian to plan your diet. While planning your diet always keep in mind that instead of large meals take small meals and increase number of meals, for example replace the regular three meal pattern (that is breakfast, lunch and dinner) with a six meal pattern by adding snacks between the meals. Always give preference to fresh food instead of refined and processed foods. Drink lots of water because it is calorie free and helps to flush away the toxins.

A 1200 calorie diet healthy breakfast will include one wheat bread with low fat butter or a cup of cereal with a boiled egg and one small fruit. For a lunch options are mixed salad, baked potato, and French bread pizza. You can also include some vegetables like broccoli, bell peppers, cabbage etc. For a dinner choose grilled chicken or fish and pasta salad or mix vegetable salad with some dressing. To ensure the right quantities of these foods you can take the help of a dietitian.

To plan a 1200 calorie diet above food list is not compulsory and you can make variation of foods and also manage calorie intake. This can be done with the exchange system. The exchange food system provides information about food content from which you can easily estimate calories in any food. It also helps to maintain the balance of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats throughout the day. Before developing diet plans you must know your nutritional requirement in terms of calories, then select the food from exchange list and plan your daily meal according to your calorie requirement.

1200 Calorie Diabetic Exchange Diet Allows Variations of Food

The exchange system contains six different lists of foods and food from each exchange group is well defined so that one serving of each food contains the same amount of carbohydrates, proteins, and fat. These groups are starch/bread, vegetables, fruit, milk, meat and fat. From each food list a certain number of exchange choices are allowed, but amount and type of these exchanges are based on a daily exercise, insulin injections, blood pressure and body weight. The food substitution can be done only within an exchange list but not between lists even if they have the same calorie count. In the exchange lists some foods are free; these foods contain less than 20 calories per serving.

In 1200 calorie diet you can include per day five exchanges of starch/bread exchange group, two exchanges of vegetable group, three exchanges of fruit group, two exchanges of milk group, four exchanges of meat and three exchanges of fat group. Each exchange of starch/bread group contains 80 calories. In vegetable exchange group each group contains 5 grams of proteins, 5 grams of carbohydrates and 2 grams of fiber. In fruit exchange group each exchange contains about 60 calories. For a diabetic 1200 calorie diet avoid artificially sweetened milk and include skim or very low-fat milk and milk substitutes. When you choose meat remove the fat before cooking. You can include high fat meat exchanges maximum three times a week. Include fat exchange in very small amount. In this calorie diet avoid saturated and Trans fatty acid instead of that choose polyunsaturated or monounsaturated fats.

Drink lots of water because it is calorie free and helps to flush away the toxins. Did you know that flavored carbonated water has no calories, sugar, body, sweetener, color or preservatives?
The taste is fantastic, extremely refreshing and gives diabetics a great drink without any carbohydrates. Read more about flavored carbonated water concentrate at carbonatedseltzerwater

How to Make the Lemon Detox Diet Drink - The Correct Recipe and Ingredients

Getting this very simple recipe right is crucial to your ultimate result.

Ingredients for the Lemon Detox Drink

2 Tablespoons Freshly Squeezed Lemon Juice 2 Tablespoons Maple Syrup Grade B 1/10th Teaspoon Cayenne Pepper 8 fl Oz's Pure Water

How to Make the Lemon Detox Diet Drink - The Correct Recipe and Ingredients

Mix all of the ingredients together in a glass and enjoy! Initially you may find the cayenne pepper a little hot, especially if you are not used to spicy food but this is something that you also become accustomed to very quickly.

I was quite surprised at how hot it was when I first tried it but I was soon adding extra cayenne for an even stronger detox towards the end.

You'll need to drink a minimum of 6 detox drinks throughout the day. Somewhere between 8 - 12 is ideal. Make sure that you are also drinking plenty of fresh pure water throughout the day too.

Whenever you start to feel a bit hungry, go and mix yourself a drink. This tends to keep hunger pains at bay pretty quickly. Once you get past day 3, you'll probably find that you will experience very few actual hunger pains although about 1 in 4 people do say that they have regular hunger pains throughout. But don't worry, I've got a good feeling that you'll be one of the lucky other 3!

The drink is best made fresh each time that you want to drink it but this sometimes isn't possible, especially if you are heading off to work. To try and maintain the cleaning power of the lemon enzymes, make a concentrate of the maple syrup and the lemon juice and just add water when you want to drink it.

**TIP**

So if you were planning on drinking 3 drinks whilst you were out, you would need to make up a concentrate of 6 tablespoons of lemon juice and 6 tablespoons of maple syrup.

To make life easier on yourself, take 3 separate bottles of water each containing 8 fl Oz's of pure water but with the capacity for 10 fl Oz's as you will be adding your concentrate to it.

You'll need to pack a tablespoon for measuring and your cayenne to add at the end. (you can add 3/10ths of a teaspoon of cayenne to the concentrate but cayenne tends to get hotter when it hits liquid and is left for a period of time).

Once you're ready for a drink, just get your concentrate out and give it a good shake, then measure 4 tablespoons into the bottle, add your cayenne, shake and drink!

**Tip**

If hunger creeps in just distract yourself. I decided to detox my house whilst I detoxed my body. There is nothing quite like cleaning to keep you focused and distracted. My house had never looked so good by the time I had finished my detox and of course it helps when you get so much more energy than you normally have.

If you don't have a house to clean try some light exercise as this will make you feel great and keep your mind off food. Don't forget to keep drinking the detox drink and replenishing your water supplies.

The History Of Italian Food

While some of the most popular dishes associated with the Italian culture include a tempting slice of pizza and a heaping plate of pasta, there is much more to the world of Italian cooking. Throughout the many regions in Italy, the distinctive cuisine of the Italians shines through in a wide-range of eating habits, styles of cooking, and selection of local ingredients. The changing of the times has also influenced Italian food, as the meals served in the pre-Roman era possess both similarities and differences in the cuisine of today.

The culinary history of Italy established a reputation more than 2,000 years ago, which includes an illustrious movement during the Roman Empire. Culturally, food preparation was quite important in the past where flashes of significance have been captured in the only surviving cookbook (Apicius), which dates back to the first century BC.

The spread of Italian food diversity began after the fall of the Roman Empire when individual city states began to uphold separate identities and traditions. Each region began to display its own unique way of cooking, right down to the formation of a meatball to the characteristic cheeses and wine produced in a locale. The north developed Tuscan beef, while black truffles were very popular in Marches. Provolone and mozzarella cheeses developed in the south, as well as a host of interesting citrus fruits.

The History Of Italian Food

Diverse types of bread, variations in pasta, and varying food preparation techniques also differed according to region. The southern regions of Italy embrace hard-boiled spaghetti, while the north often prefers a soft egg noodle. Milan is known for their risotto, while Bologna has a deep history regarding tortellini, and Naples is famous for their pizzas.

Over the years, Italian cuisine has greatly evolved in part because of a wealth of outside influences that have added to its characteristic flavor and appeal. In the beginning, ancient Greek cookery became an integrated part of Italian cuisine. Eventually, a wealth of imports found their way into the kitchens of early Italians, who sent Roman ships to collect a variety of important foods, including wheat, wine, exotic ingredients, and fine spices from around the world. Some ships even traveled to faraway locations, such as China, to bring back edible resources that catapulted the depth and variety of Italian cooking styles.

Coastal regions are known for their developments in delicious fish and seafood dishes. For example, the island of Sardinia supplies a more traditional and simple style of cuisine, which often incorporated delicacies, associated with the sea. Swordfish, lobster, anchovies, sardines, and other Mediterranean treats represent Italian cooking of the area. In Sicily (another island region), a great deal of the cooking drew heavily from North African influences. An Arab influence also affected cuisine on the island and within the rest of the south, especially with the introduction of various spices and sweets, such as the Sicilian ice cream cake called cassata.

As for one of the most popular Italian dishes, while the history books often state that pasta was a product of the Chinese brought back by Venetian merchant, Marco Polo, it was actually a rediscovery of a food item eaten during Etruscan and Roman times. It is believed that the first pasta in Italy was made similar to the noodles of today - from the same durum wheat - which was cooked in ovens instead of boiled in water.

Today, the differences in Italian cooking still show through in the distinctions between the north and the south. Each region still carries their own traditions in cooking that reflects deep history and culture with a never ending supply of main courses, appetizers, and desserts that continuously tempts the taste buds.

Food And Drink In Argentina

Food and Drink in Argentina: Why to Go

Argentinean cuisine is a melange of continental European (Spanish, Portuguese, German, Austrian and many others), native Indigenous, African and Asian. Some of the most favored foods are sausage, pasta and desserts which are also common to Europe and North America. Some of the local delicacies include empanadas (stuffed pastry), locro (mix of beans, meat, bacon, corn, gourd and onions), humitas and yerba mate (a tea which is considered Argentina's national drink). Spicy Spanish sausage (chorizo) and even a milk caramel jam called Duce de Leche.

Common foods

Food And Drink In Argentina

Some of the most common foods in the Argentine diet are their high protein meats such as beef, which is cooked on the barbecue (asado). Steak and ribs are both very popular as is spicy pork sausage, black pudding, cracklings and a special type of sweetbread called mollejas. In parts of the country, especially Patagonia, lamb and goat are the most common meat. Common snacks are breaded and fried meat which is most often eaten as a sandwich. Vegetables, salads made from mashed potatoes, as well as tomatoes, onions, lettuce, squashes and eggplant are very important in the Argentine diet.

International foods

Of course, for the tourist, a little taste of home is never far away in Argentina. Because of it's International cuisine, Argentina also offers a solution for those who miss something. Pizza, pasta, lasagna and ravioli are all available in many places. Hamburgers, hot dogs and pies are all over the place. As is German sausage, Jewish kosher, Arabic halal and Chinese, Vietnamese and Thai cuisine. There is even a Welsh community who are famous for their tea houses that serve scones, jam and cream.

Argentine drinks

Argentina's traditional drink is an infusion of herbs called yerba mate. This traditionally made drink is sweetened with sugar or flavored with orange peel and cinnamon to hide a bitter taste. Yerba mate is an important social ritual. Beer, wine and soda are all available of course. In Argenina, soda is actually wine mixed with carbonated water. The national beer is Quilmes and is from Buenos Aires.

Central region

Why to go to the Central region of Argentina is partly because of the cuisine. This area is around the capital Buenos Aires and is actually based a lot in traditional Italian meals. This area is also known for its cattle and thus beef is an important part of their diet. There is asado and dulce de leche, but also very popular is the milanesa, which is basically breaded meat. Roast beef, pizza are all typical to this area. Some pizza specialties include stuffed pizza, grilled pizza and mushroom pizza. Bread made from chickpea flour is also made as is all different types of pasta used in Italian style meals.

The provinces

The provinces of Argentina host a variety of very delicious and unique snacks and styles. Garden vegetables are all very important and one typical meal is the locro, which is a stew made from different types of corn grains. Maize cake, homemade liquors, distilled wine and many more are all part of the provincial cuisine.
